How to perfectly summarize Venus: “Though she be but little, she is fierce”. Venus originally came to us as one of the members of the Sunshine Kids litter. Right off the bat, Venus was special. She was quiet and sweet and always expressed gratitude by giving kisses whenever something was done for her. Beautiful in her own way, Venus was passed over several times before being adopted as she wasn’t as blonde as her siblings / she looked “too different”. Over time, her “mask” has faded but she is as beautiful as ever. Venus was adopted around the same time as her siblings at around 10 weeks old, but was promptly returned for behavioral problems.... none of which she exhibited prior to adoption. With either a few weeks maturity or just a very different environment, she seemed to shift into a dog who resisited handling quite fervently. After confirming that her growling at being picked up was not medically related, we put together a program to help build her trust, solidify fair boundries, and associate restraint and handling with positive things. Venus has come a very long way since returning to our care. She has learned how to express her boundaries and communicate when she doesn’t want to be picked up/held, in a calm voice. Venus does display affection, but on her own terms. She prefers to climb into your lap or sit next to you vs being picked up or placed where you want her. She does respond to her name, sits when asked, and will come to you when called (most of the time). When she wants to say thank you or just let you know she’s happy, she will come up to you and wait for you to lean close so she can steal a kiss. She LOVES to run around in the fenced back yard of her foster home and play with all the toys. Venus does not like to be alone. However, while she likes the company of another dog to play with, she is a bit sassy and bossy. Her ideal playmate is a dog that doesn’t mind being told what to do. Venus would thrive in a home WITHOUT cats or children, a fenced area to play in, and active loving parents who will continue to work with her, show patience, and reassure her that she is safe and loved. She would love to meet any potential dog siblings before deciding on her forever home. Venus is a smart girl who is crate trained and ready to continue potty training, learn new tricks, and be a permanent part of a family.

Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/. The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care. Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy. We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter. CVRR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the animal picks you, too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract. CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to CVRR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it.
