Alfie is an affectionate, responsive, intelligent and lovable 10 month old purebred heeler.  He is everything an active adventure loving person would want in a dog partner!  He listens well for his age, loves playing and learning.  He is housebtrained and crate trained.  Alfie was originally surrendered at 5 months because he was not behaving well with the resident cats and He and his very submissive littermate had some doggy disputes. He came into foster care with 6 other dogs and did very well with the canines but def IS a cat chaser.  He was with us around a month before being adopted to his current family.  We chose a family with no other dogs because we didn’t want to risk him being returned for inner house hold dog issues but they reported that he is growling at dogs while walking on a leash, and they are not comfortable with the behavior or working through the issue. According to them, he isn’t lunging, and is still very easy to handle.  Based on the fact that he did quite well with the dogs in foster care, we feel this is likely a fear response while leashed since he doesn’t have the ability to retreat (not an uncommon response at all)

He has lived with small kids his whole life and LOVES them so he would love to be another “only animal family dog”.  We are very dedicated to making sure that the next family adopts for a lifetime and will be willing to work through small issues that may come up along the way

Our first step is an application which can be filled out at:   www.cvrrescue.org

The adoption fee for this dog is $175.00 which helps to cover a portion of the care provided, including: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, deworming, age appropriate vaccinations: DHLP/P, Bordetella, Rabies, and any medical care received while with CVRR.  All animals are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.

CVRR is a nonprofit organization, we have no paid staff. Applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks and follow-up questions.   You can expedite the process by providing phone and email info for all your references.

Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the dog picks you too.  If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee and an adoption contract to be signed.  The adoption fee helps to cover a portion of the care provided to the animals.   By the time of adoption all dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vetting.

CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out the animal is to be returned to CVRR.   We will re-evaluate and choose a new home based on the best fit for that particular animal.
