Public safety.... There is nothing more important to us. We have euthanized because of real uncontrollable, unpredictable aggression exactly three dogs in 4 years since our founding...and we did everything we could to avoid making that gut wrenching choice each time.

Oreo here got himself into some trouble. He was growly in the shelter but once arriving in our care, improved. (as you seen in the video he was pretty relaxed meeting me for the first time). He was adopted a few weeks later to a sweet young lady with no children-  because we knew the potential was there. A few days in, she tried to put his harness on him to take him outside for a walk. He warned with a growl and bit her finger hard enough to require sutures. We took him back at once and he finished his 10 day bite quarantine back in foster care.

In rescue there are behaviors that I know to be manageable in the right environment and ones that cannot be safely controlled. For instance, dogs who are unpredictable with their “triggers” are not tolerated here.  Larger dogs with any real aggression cannot be safely adopted- just because a “warning nip” could considerably more serious than one from smaller teeth. Another consideration is warning. Does the dog send clear body language that they are uncomfortable? We appreciate dogs who physically or verbally swing the red flag rather than leading first with their teeth.

I do believe, despite Oreos bad choice, that he is adoptable to the right home still. So what is the right home?  He needs a very dog savvy owner..... someone who knows bitey little dogs and can read body language well. His adopter will have to have the time and ability to be consistent- teaching him what’s ok and what’s not while still protecting themselves. Someone who understands little bitey dogs...  Also there can obviously be no children in the house hold or chance of children in his lifetime.

Unless we are 100 percent comfortable with a match we won’t adopt him out and we will likely encourage any adopter to be a foster to adopter with us.

Oreo is 8 years old, 20-25 pounds, and up to date on vetting. He is neutered.  There is one dog (of the many in his foster home, that he occasionally picks on, but for the most part he is tolerant of the other resident dogs. to apply, go to www.cvrrescue.org

Our first step is an application which can be filled out at:   www.cvrrescue.org

The adoption fee for this dog is $100.00 which helps to cover a portion of the care provided, including: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, deworming, age appropriate vaccinations: DHLP/P, Bordetella, Rabies, and any medical care received while with CVRR.  All animals are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.

CVRR is a nonprofit organization, we have no paid staff. Applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks and follow-up questions.   You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone and email info for all your references.

Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the dog picks you too.  If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee and an adoption contract to be signed.  The adoption fee helps to cover a portion of the care provided to the animals.   By the time of adoption all dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vetting.

CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal is to be returned to CVRR.   We will re-evaluate and choose a new home based on the best fit for that particular animal.

Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/.

The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.

Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy.

We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter.
