Things I have learned about Woody Guthrie aka "Gus": 8 yr. male beagle with mostly white face.
He is a GREAT tracker - showed me where the rabbits get through my fence day one within 30 seconds. Day two showed me the other hole in my fence in less than a minute. LOVES to run if the space is open and clear. Scouts the backyard but keeps making sure he can find me. Is looking in the direction of my face more often. Comes when called, loves for me scratch behind his ears. Rides in the car very well. Prances with high steps when not running full tilt outside. Likes to lie down where he can see me, and prefers a rug. If not a rug, a newspaper or stray piece of mail will do. Does not like Milk Bone treats. Does not like toys. Does not chew on anything yet. Snores with a deep bass tone.
I do not know what he sees exactly. The vet said his vision is impaired but he doesn't bump into things. He shies away from sudden motion and some noises (running water in the sink; refrigerator coming on). Is still very cautious. Is working on learning about doors opening (he is frightened when I open a door toward us). Is doing pretty well with the three steps to the porch - that was our first set of lessons.
He is a cool dude. I am looking forward to working with him more once he feels comfortable. Tonight is night #5.
Our first step is an application which can be filled out at: www.cvrrescue.org
The adoption fee for this dog is $100.00 which helps to cover a portion of the care provided, including: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, deworming, age appropriate vaccinations: DHLP/P, Bordetella, Rabies, and any medical care received while with CVRR. All animals are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.
CVRR is a nonprofit organization, we have no paid staff. Applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks and follow-up questions. You can expedite the process by providing phone and email info for all your references.
Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the dog picks you too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee and an adoption contract to be signed. The adoption fee helps to cover a portion of the care provided to the animals. By the time of adoption all dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vetting.
CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out the animal is to be returned to CVRR. We will re-evaluate and choose a new home based on the best fit for that particular animal.

Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/. The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care. Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy. We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter. CVRR is a nonprofit organization.
